The primary purpose of this position is to to provide tower, radar, and non-radar air traffic control (ATC) services to military and civilian aircraft operating under Instrument Flight Rules (!FR), Special Visual Flight Rules (SVFR), or Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

### Responsibilities
* Performs air traffic control duties in the control tower and radar facility.
* Operates, trains, and provides preventative maintenance on a host of automated communication and display hardware and software systems that are integral and vital to the operation of the air traffic control facility.
* Serves as the primary watch supervisor, senior controller In the ATC facility.
* Conducts and performs weather-related functions as part of the National Weather System.
* Provides comprehensive On-the-Job training for Air Force and Air National Guard personnel in accordance with Air Force, Air National Guard, FAA, and local policies and directives.

### Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-10) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include directing movement of aircraft in flight and on the ground by utilizing pilot and controller reports, visual observation, and/or Tower and radar displays; ensuring all equipment is accurately aligned and within the required standards, while operating a peak efficiency by all controllers; provides direction to all controllers in a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air and ground aircraft and vehicle traffic; serves as the focal point on the airfield for ground or airborne aircraft mishaps, system reports on hazardous air traffic activities, and ATC and pilot incident inquires; performs normal and special surface weather observations in a timely manner; uses technical expertise and judgment for air traffic control procedures and provides hands-on training to trainee personnel using automated or formal classroom instructions.
**FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:** Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):**Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations, policies, procedures, and instructions to include possessing an FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate and capable of performing air traffic control functions IA W AFI 13-203 & AFI 13-204, with applicable ANG supplements.
2. Knowledge and skill to use Information Technology (IT) equipment and software, to include ATC training simulators, weather equipment, recording systems, digital radar systems, and various information data systems.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of administrative and correspondence practices required to supervise facility functions such as: technical orders, operating instructions, user guides, etc. General knowledge of military methodology, rank, customs, and protocol is desirable.
4. Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply air traffic control rules, directives, and procedures to ensure the safe and expeditious flow of air traffic control in !FR, VFR and SVFR conditions.
5. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Must possess the ability to speak rapidly, clearly, and distinctively. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and ability to negotiate effectively and professionally.
6. Ability to plan, organize work, establish milestones, and meet deadlines.
7. Knowledge of weather phenomena and localized effects, to include the ability to perform appropriate reporting procedures as required.
**PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:**Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
**VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE:** Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The "certification" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation. Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid "certification" of service with their initial application will be found "not eligible." Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.
